I jarred some pickles and jam

I attended a "Sudweeks Sisters" weekend in Lake Tahoe. I brought for an activity supplies for jarring pickles and jam (thanks Star for teaching me how to do it!) I got lots of help from the other girls and had a VERY successful jarring session, 100% of the jars sealed. Woo Hoo!
I went to a farmers market and bought 10 pounds of pickling cucumbers. I sliced them with a special "crinkle cutter" that Star bought me. I think it makes them look "fancier".

Here is the finished result. Kosher Garlic Dill Pickles... heavy on the garlic. I cant hardly wait the 4 weeks till they are ready to eat.

I also made some low sugar Strawberry-Blackberry Jam. We got to use it on our toast at Tahoe and it was delicious! Aunt Ann went and bought some supplies too and we made some strawberry jam for her to take back to Utah. I had a blast doing all the jarring and was excited to be able to teach my aunties how to do it.

my... umm...beets?

We decided to grow beets and so we planted, watered, and miracle grow'd them till it was time to harvest we pulled 2 bulbs and one was albino and one had "zebra stripes". We cooked them and they tasted just fine. They were very mild. I've heard of ringed beets, and yellow beets but not zebra or albino ones... It will be interesting to see what the rest look like.

Uno in the dark

The electricity went out (thanks dad for fixing it!) and the kids got bored and so I told them about how the electricity went out all the time when i was little and how we would play card games at the table with candles, and the kids thought that it was a brilliant idea and decided that that is what we should do. So we played Uno by scented-candle light. They thought it was so fun (even though Ash lit her hair on fire a little bit).

Ashley's Cabbage

Ashley went on a "Agri-venture" field trip for school and learned about planting and growing food. The kids got a teeny-tiny cabbage plant in a paper cup to take home and grow. She placed it in our garden and watered and miracle grow'd it till it got so big the cabbage head itself split so it could grow more. Every time someone came to the house she showed them her cabbage with great pride.

My Sushi Girl

To say Ashley loves sushi would be putting it mildly... she LLOOVVEESS sushi! It is by far her favorite food. We went to the new Japanese restaurant "DOMO". She surprised our waiter when this little white girl ordered the "Spicy Rainbow Platter" and then ate the whole thing!
Ashley enjoyed eating at DOMO and gave it two thumbs up.

CJ Loves Icecream

Calin discovered a new flavor of Thrifty's Ice cream... Cotton Candy! It tastes like frozen liquid sugar! He LOVED it!I don't know how he manages to get ice cream All Over his face.
